Who am I?

Good question.

I'm Emma, a Glasgow-based producer and project manager working across film, music, festivals, live events and creative education.

I originally trained as a classical singer, which is perhaps not the most obvious route into producing films, managing festivals or spending an alarming amount of time with spreadsheets. But my career has never followed a particularly straight line.

Over the years, I've worked as a performer, stage manager, producer, administrator, project manager and educator, across everything from opera and contemporary classical music to film and large-scale live events. Rather than choosing one of those worlds and abandoning the others, I've built a portfolio career that lets them overlap. It turns out that the skills travel surprisingly well.

At the heart of most of my work is the same thing: taking something complicated, working out what needs to happen, bringing the right people together and making sure it actually does. I like ambitious projects, unusual ideas and the point where creative thinking meets practical problem solving.

My background as a performer also shapes how I work. I know what it's like to be the person walking into the rehearsal room, stepping onto the stage or relying on everything behind the scenes to work. It's made me particularly conscious of what artists and creative teams need from the people working behind the scenes, and how much good organisation can free them up to do their best work.

I'm based in Glasgow but work across Scotland, the UK and beyond. And because apparently having several careers wasn't quite enough, I also continue to sing professionally and write about Eurovision.

Turns out I'm not particularly good at doing just one thing.
